City Curbs: The City’s Responsibility

My commitment is to bring By-law 2026-139 back to Council and seek its repeal or amendment to remove any provisions that unfairly shift the cost of repairing deteriorating City-owned curbs onto homeowners. Maintaining public infrastructure should be a basic municipal service covered by your property taxes.

My plan is to establish clear City responsibility for repairing deteriorating curbs, with proper inspections and quality accountability, restoring the services residents deserve.

Clear the Snow banks City Plows Leave at Driveway Entrances

You shovel your driveway, only for a City snowplow to leave a heavy wall of snow across the entrance. Residents deserve a better approach.

My commitment is to bring driveway entrance snowbank clearing, also called windrow clearing, to Ottawa. The goal is for the City’s snow-clearing operation to include removing the piles its road plows leave blocking residential driveway entrances.

Ontario municipalities such as Vaughan and Richmond Hill already provide this kind of service. Ottawa should develop a practical program of its own.

I will bring forward a proposal with equipment needs, staffing, costs and clear service standards for Council’s consideration. The service would focus on reopening driveway entrances after road plowing. It would not include shovelling the entire private driveway.

Residents should know what service to expect, how soon crews will arrive and how to report a missed entrance.
